Competition proposal for the extension of the iconic Pärnu Beach café. The newly designed addition accommodates a hotel and spa complex. The proposal seeks a balance between the interests of the city, the investors, and the preservation of historical heritage.
During the project, several issues were identified that would arise from implementing the linear extension volume defined in the detailed plan — it would dominate the existing building, create a barrier between the beach and the park, and, with the spa function, effectively “privatize” a large portion of the beach.
The proposal offers an alternative solution — a compact extension referencing the rounded forms characteristic of the resort architecture by Olev Siinmaa.
