Competition entry for Estonian state forest management office building.
Proposed solution is based on local building traditions. One story high volume with pitched roof is typical for the region. It doesn`t exceed the height of other buildings in the area.
The lenght of the building is deliberatley exaggerated, distinguisging it from the neighboring private houses, forming a public outdoor space in front of it and responding to the aspect that the site lies between a linear structures – two roads.
The linearity of the building is interrupted in two places. Perpendicularly rotated volume emphasizes location of
the main entrance, while the area around the existing tree serves as an outdoor space near recreational rooms and also visually separates the office building from the auxiliary building.
Architectural details are designed in a minimal and contemporary manner. The roof is covered with wooden planks indicating to building`s connection with forestry industry. Transparency of facades allows office workers to feel almost like working in a garden.
Various principles of spatial organization are used in the interiors - in the office part, the rooms form an enfilade, creating a representative impression, while the recreation rooms are arranged around the small courtyard, creating more intimate atmosphere.
