The house consists of two residential units separated by a linear strip of auxiliary rooms on the ground floor level. The layout ensures maximum privacy and allows each apartment to be used completely autonomously.
The design of the house relates to the great importance of nature and garden in the lifestyle of its owners. The ground floor is designed to create an indoor ambiance similar to that seen in a vernacular wooden house veranda. Extensive glazing establishes a close connection between the interior spaces and the garden. There is also an upper floor terrace above the utility room, where the residents can enjoy the view of the blooming garden.
The gable roof is used in order to minimise the volume and therefore reduce the shading it casts on the courtyard, allowing inhabitants to appreciate longer periods of sunshine in the garden. The same metal finishes are used both on the slopes and on gable end walls, allowing the roof to be perceived more as a geometric shape, thus refreshing the overall classic composition of the building. The project also focuses on maximising natural light in the interior, for example, a large skylight allows sunlight to enter the staircase and illuminate the dining area even before the afternoon sun begins to shine through the windows.
